Also, "thanks!" to J.Crew Guy In Canada who shared with us his {fantastic} review of the Canvas Heritage Oxford from Land's Ends Canvas:
It seems funny, me writing about LE Canvas; almost like cheating on my significant other (J.Crew), but recently the Canvas line has been receiving so much buzz on-line I thought I'd give it a try. As all of you know shopping on-line can be tricky, whether it be canceled orders or dicey fits, but LE is so easy to deal with, I do believe their CS to be among the best."Thanks!" again to J.Crew Guy In Canada for his great review of this shirt! I also really like his take on J.Crew & Land's End Canvas. I am really liking Land's End Canvas (frankly, they rock!), but J.Crew is still my girl too! :)
I started off with a shirt, the Canvas Heritage oxford (Item #38730-8X53; $34.50) in blue. The colour is great, a soft baby blue. I must say whoever is doing the design and fit work at LE Canvas deserves a raise. The shirt fit perfectly, not an old man baggy shirt with droopy shoulders, or an extreme cut euro one either. It's almost like a brother to the tailored fit I love from J.Crew. The shirt is cut a little short, so it works well untucked, but it's still long enough to wear tucked in. The cloth is a soft oxford, about a mid weight one. The cloth is easy to wear, not a stiff heavy weight version, not a light weight fabric either. The material has a washed, broken in softness to it, like you've had it for some time. I was happy to see there is no distressing or worn, frayed edges, I'll do that on my own with wearing the shirt.
The shirt appears to be well constructed and should stand up well. I was especially impressed with the little details; the way the sleeve is made from three pieces and not two like most shirts. The letter 'c' on the shirt's lower placket is a nice touch. The shirt is fitted and tailored as mentioned without being tight or binding. The cuffs also have a contrasting piece of fabric running inside the cuff. It's these details that make the shirt feel more like a Ralph Lauren shirt than something from LE. When you look at the price it becomes even more impressive as the shirt is less than $40.
Two days after receiving and wearing the blue one I found a code for free shipping and 20% off, so a white oxford was next. Same great cut and fabric as the blue one. Seems like LE is constantly sharing free shipping and discounts codes enabling me to buy more; like the canvas washed D-ring belt that I'm waiting to arrive. The hand written thank-you card and free shipping code that came in the mail a week after the blue shirt was the final touch to 'wow' me.
J.Crew is still my girl, but this new gal called Canvas is quickly working her magic on me.
What are your thoughts on the Oxford? Would you consider getting it? Are there any Land's End Canvas items you are interested and/or have reviewed? If so, please share! :)
